LAKER JACKY PROJECT

Laker Jacky is a 30-year-old woman with no understanding and no will, born during the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) uprising in northern Uganda. The father was one of the LRA rebels who died in an ambush. Jacky went to school but dropped out of school, got married and gave birth to five children. The husband is an alcoholic and the second child was born mentally retarded. Due to financial problems, all the children have dropped out of school. Jacky’s uncle who hosts them in his home no longer wants her and the kids to live with him because of the mentally challenged child, because he claims that the child’s illness would lead to problems for his family. He wants them to find another home and, if they don’t, threatens to burn down the house they currently live in.
